For Mets fans, the 2026 season has been a difficult one from Queens to St. Lucie.

As of July 23, the numbers paint a sobering picture.

The major league club and every full-season affiliate own losing records. While one bad season at a single level can often be explained away by injuries, player development priorities, or bad luck, struggles across the organization raise larger questions.

Fans invest more than money. They invest their time, emotions, and optimism. A family driving to St. Lucie for a Florida State League game expects an enjoyable night at the ballpark. Fans in Brooklyn hoping to watch the next generation of Mets prospects want to leave believing better days are ahead. Those making the trip to Syracuse or Binghamton expect to see players preparing to contribute in Queens.

Instead, too many fans have watched losses become the common thread throughout the organization.

Winning isn’t the sole objective in the minor leagues. Development comes first. Teaching a young pitcher a new changeup or asking an infielder to learn a different position may cost a game today while helping a player tomorrow. Minor league standings have never been the ultimate measure of organizational health.

But development and winning are not mutually exclusive.

Organizations such as the Dodgers have shown that strong player development and winning baseball can coexist throughout a farm system. Winning environments teach accountability, resilience, and the expectation that playing fundamentally sound baseball matters.

When losing becomes commonplace, there’s a risk that it begins to feel normal.

That’s the concern facing the Mets. This isn’t simply about one club enduring a difficult season. It’s about an organization struggling to achieve consistent success from Queens to St. Lucie.
